Holding on and Positioning to Receive
John5:1-8
I got three things from this story (Jesus and the sick man at the pool of Bethsaida).
*
*
1. The sick man had a reasonable excuse for not getting his healing even after 38years. The way we have a reasonable excuse for remaining where we are; no money, no long leg aka connection, the government is not paying/working well, the area where I live is not encouraging, many people are already doing the same thing, who will buy, you don’t understand my case is different… And on and on
*
*
2. The sick man was still there after 38years. Why didn’t he give up? Why didn’t he stop coming? He still had hope that the situation will change, so he kept on coming and on the day that Jesus found him, it was not in his house but where he could be located… Where are you? Have you given up?
*
*
3. In as much as he was waiting and hoping for a miracle, he wasn’t ready for it… After 38years of sickness, a simple question was asked: “would you like to get well? He said, ” I can’t sir…” He then tries to make Jesus see why it is impossible…

We spend time praying for life partner, job, children, money, speaking engagements, contracts e.t.c that we forget to prepare for it. Like the story of the villagers who gathered to pray for rain and only a little boy came prepared with an umbrella… Am I ready to receive what I am asking for or I am so fixated on asking that I forget about the receiving?

It’s 2019, a new year…
Will you like to get well?
