Huddah’s Triangle

Episode 5

There was a loud crash as the entrance door crashed in from outside. It was a blur of sounds, shouts and grunts, then two loud shots rang out. The sound vibrated through the house as three bodies lay on the floor.

Huddah woke up with a start on the hospital bed. Noel who was sitting beside her gently pushed her down. “It’s okay, everything is fine.” He crooned as he wiped the tears off her face.

“What…?” She tried speaking but her throat was parched and dry. Noel gave her water and explained.

“You had been in a coma for three days. The doctors said we lost you but there is nothing impossible for God.”

She tried to ask questions but he told her to rest. “All your questions will be answered, now is the time to regain your strength.”

Grace and Ali filled her in on what happened that night. When the children ran out for help. Jimmy and his crew who had been undercover, monitoring Sunny and his entire family had seen them and taken the children, while Jimmy rushed down to help Huddah. The fracas had resulted in a fatal gunshot to her Jimmy and Sunny. They had all been in a coma but while she and Jimmy had woken up, Sunny had died. “The doctors had declared there was no chance but Noel had insisted everything is done, and just as everyone except Noel was about to give up, both of you woke up,” Ali said. “It’s a miracle!” Grace and Ali echoed themselves as Huddah smiled wanly. It was mixed feelings for Huddah, it wasn’t enough that she had betrayed Noel, she had caused the near-death of his son also. She could not bring herself to think of the implications of Sunny’s death.

Grace and Ali took care of her children while she recuperated and after some weeks at the hospital, she was free to go home.

On the day she was discharged, Grace and Ali came to help her, the doctors were amazed by her quick recovery, as she walked unaided out of the hospital. Outside, Noel was waiting with her children. She was shocked and distressed to see him, she had not seen him after the first day she woke up. He had only been sending Grace and Ali to her and paying for her needs and bills at the hospital. She felt he only did it out of pity. He held the door open for her but she shook her head as tears streamed down her face.

” No, I don’t deserve your kindness. I have done a lot and you have lost a lot because of me. I don’t expect anything from you, you should hate me.”

“I don’t hate you Huddah,” Noel shook his head. “yes, Jimmy nearly died but he’s alive and so are you. I have you both and these lovely children now. Come let’s go home.”

“No, please just go. I don’t have anything to give you.” Huddah ignored his outstretched hands and the open car door. She ran down the street and stopped a bike, ignoring Noel’s voice calling her. She gave the bike man her house address with Sunny, even though she did not want to go back there, that was all she knew.

The children were with Grace, she called her and told her to help her with them for the night. Grace tried convincing her to leave the house and come stay with her or take Noel’s offer but she refused.

She cleaned up the whole house and tried to make everywhere look good but the taunts, pains and abuse of the years met her everywhere she turned. Sunny’s family came, but she refused to open the door. They threatened her and told her they were coming for her and her children because she was still their property. Huddah hid in her room scared this may be her story the rest of her life if she does not live this house and family.

After they left that night she called Noel to come to pick her. He came immediately and took her to his house. At home, he directed her to the room where she freshened up and slept off immediately her head hit the pillow. She knew she was safe here.

The next morning from a deep sleep Huddah jumped out of bed, she thought she heard Sunny’s voice, “Useless woman, still sleeping by this time,” Her heart rate slowed down a bit when she saw she was still in Noel’s house, but she still felt guilty for lying down by 10 am. As she turned, she saw a letter addressed to her on the bedside drawer. It read, “Good morning love, I saw you sleeping beautifully and I didn’t want to wake you, because I love seeing you rest. I will be in the garden waiting for you when you get up. Love Noel💞

Huddah looked at the words that looked strange to her, she had forgotten what such words meant, it was difficult to believe them anyway. She tidied the room and freshened up. Then she went to meet Noel in the garden.

” Hello beautiful, ” Noel raised his head with a calm and peaceful smile. Though Huddah felt the words were not true, she said nothing. she sat on the chair beside him, “Do you remember when we first met? Noel asked as he reminded her of their love story and his promises to her. The words fell on her heart like thorns as she remembered the pain of her betrayal and mistakes once more. She didn’t dare hope for a second chance.

“Enough, please. What do you want from me?” She whispered brokenly as Noel’s words weaved through her pain.
He was silent for a while, then he answered. “I love you Huddah, I never stopped loving you and I will never stop. I want all of you, I want you and I want you and your children to be mine. I want to share everything I have with you, this house, I built it for you because I know you will be mine again. All I ask in return is that you love me and be with me. If you say yes, we will put everything in place today.”

Huddah was speechless. “What do you see in me? I don’t have anything to give you, I am completely useless and empty. I can’t even stand among your peers, I will bring shame to you.”

Noel placed a finger on her lips and wiped off the tears streaming down her face, “who told you that? you are all that I need, I love you just the way you are. besides, I don’t care what people think or say.” He smiled and place a bowl of fruit in front of her.

Can I give you an answer in the evening? My head is spinning.” She said and he nodded. Huddah needed to move away from Noel’s intoxicating presence. She badly wanted to say yes, but she was scared. The effects of Sunny still lingered, contaminating everything. What if Noel changes his mind later? What if he finds out that she had nothing to offer and he regrets marrying her? What will people say, Noel made his son kill Sunny, so he can marry her. People will be pointing at her wherever she goes. Huddah did not think she even deserved to be happy.
