Kiki Shines her Light
Kiki loved drawing and wanted to join the art club in school, but she came back from school to say, “I joined the taekwondo club!
Really? But that’s not what you have been talking about all through the holiday, what happened? Her parent asked.
I know… It’s just that all my friends went to taekwondo and my best friend said it would be more interesting than the art club, I didn’t want to be the only one among them who will choose a different club, so I joined them.”
“Is that so?” Her mother asked and she nodded.
Her parents looked at each other and said, “Okay.”
Later, her father asked her to come along when he was going to get some fruits for the house. On the way, he told her a story.
There lived a land where the people only knew light, generation after generation people taught their children how to make and use their light. Initially, the children learned but they started losing interest in learning because most of them had not really seen darkness, but had only heard about it.
So as they grew up, some of them didn’t bother teaching their children about it, some did not believe there was anything like darkness while others felt darkness might be interesting, it won’t be a bad idea to try something different but there were some who did not want to take chances, so they kept teaching their children even when the children tried to complain or dodge the lesson.
What they did not know was that darkness had been around all the while but the light that have been generated before was what has been keeping the town lighted up.
Gradually, the light kept going down but they did not notice, they woke up one day and everywhere was black, they could find no light, they tried fighting the darkness but it was too powerful, some of them gave up and decided to accept it, manage and keep groping about.
There was a girl who her parents had taught how to make light and use it, so she decided to put it into practice, her friends tried to tell her to forget it because the darkness was too much for only her light, but they told her to just join them and manage because it wasn’t that bad.
But she refused to listen to them and she made her light, the darkness couldn’t quench it. One after the other her friends came over and they did not want to go back to their darkness because they could see there was a difference between light and darkness.
Soon, they wanted her to teach them how to make their light, she gladly taught them and together they were able to bring light back to their land again.
“If she had listened to her friends would they have brought light back?” Kiki’s Daddy asked and she shook her head.
The same thing applies to you, your friends and the school club. There will always be darkness around and it will take the shape of different things but it is up to you if you will choose to take your stand and shine your light or join others to manage or enjoy the darkness.
Wherever you go, don’t concern yourself with the darkness, just shine your light.
The next day, Kiki went back to the art club.
