KOKO AND RUME

Rume and Koko were siblings but you will not know with the way they fought and quarreled always. Their mummy and daddy and even the neighbors were tired of separating them or settling their arguments.

One night while they were preparing for bed, their mummy came to their room, “would you like a story before you sleep boys?” she asked.

“Yes, mum they both replied as the settled into bed happily and waited for mummy’s story, she sat down and began.

“There lived two boys called Cain and Abel, they were loved by their parents very much but they quarreled and argued always.

Their parents tried settling them but Cain felt everyone loved Abel more than him and took sides with him always; he wanted to be right all the time so he refused listening to anyone even when they tried to explain. This continued until they grew up.

One day, they decided to give God a gift in appreciation for everything God has been doing for them. But Cain felt God accepted his brothers own but rejected his own, so he got very angry.

Later he pretended he wanted to go on a stroll with his brother, but it was a trick. When they were in the field, he hit his brother and killed him.

“I will see how they will like you more than me when you are dead,” he said in hatred. The anger had turned to hatred leading him to kill.

“Koko and Rume, your daddy and I are not happy because we see you fighting and quarreling always and we don’t want you to end up the same way. You have different minds so it’s normal to have different opinions about things, you can disagree but do that without fighting; because everyone is entitled to their opinions. If God wanted us to agree on everything, he would have made us the same in every way.

Your daddy and I do not love any of you more than the other; we may agree with one of you sometimes and still disagree with you later. We love you both equally and being siblings is not a mistake but to hold the family up together, is that clear?

“Yes, mummy, we are sorry.” They both answered.

“Mummy, Rume always starts it…” Koko tried to cast blame.

“I don’t want to know who starts or who ends it; if you don’t allow yourself to be provoked it will not start. I will also be praying for you and with you, I know you are good children and you can do it.” Mummy said as she switched off the light and left them to go back to sleep.

It didn’t happen one day but Koko and Rume tried to respect each other’s opinions instead of fighting when they didn’t agree on an issue.

Koko tried ignoring Rume’s taunts and laughed over them rather than getting angry as usual because he realized most of the things Rume said were not true, rather he just loved seeing him pissed off.

They boys learned they enjoyed playing together and even arguing on issues sometimes without getting angry and gradually the fight and quarrel stopped and they were back to being a peaceful family.
