Missed Calls
I sent Tori to get my phone from my bag, she refused, so I sent Nugie instead who ran to bring it. Tori on seeing her sister bringing the phone, starts crying because she has changed her mind. I gave Nugie a thank you hug with a high-five. Tori cried harder because she wanted the Thank you from mummy. I had to look for something else to send for so she could get a thank you too, she didn’t want something else, she wanted to bring the phone but when she realized that wasn’t feasible, she settled for getting something else for me. It reminded me of the parable of the two sons
Mathew 21:28 – “But what do you think? A man had two sons, and he came to the first, and said, ‘Son, go work in my vineyard.’ He answered, ‘I will not,’ but afterward he changed his mind, and went. He came to the second, and said the same thing. He answered, ‘I go, sir,’ but he didn’t go. Which of the two did the will of his father?”
From this incident, I learnt when God gives a message, gift or idea even a nudge to pray for someone; he doesn’t force his plan on me but while making excuses, procrastinating or lazing about, there are people waiting, who accept and actually do it. Like those times people achieve things and you are like “I wanted to do, say or write this, I don’t know why I didn’t” or those times, someone’s thought keep coming to you or having a feeling to call and check up and you ignore and you are like later? I have had countless times like that. When that opportunity is missed, God in his mercy can give another opportunity but it will not be the same and the benefits may not be like the first.
If I want to sulk like Tori, I will lose on all sides, if I acknowledge my mistake and correct it like she later did; I will enjoy the benefits of saying yes and obeying God.
Next time I want to make excuses; hard as it is to admit…I give them, they are all excuses (no matter how genuine) about time, finances or any ‘reasonable reason’ not to follow that idea, nudge, leading, gifts and talents e.t.c, This is what I should remember, people are waiting for me to say no directly or indirectly so they can run with it and enjoy the benefits of their obedience.
That success I am admiring or envying, may have been mine if I had followed through with the yes; who knows?
Have you missed an opportunity? how did you realize it?
