My Marriage, His Glory

Different people have different reasons why they got married. If you had asked me before last weekend, my reason was companionship, besides I felt it was time.
I went for a couple’s forum and the marriage coach was speaking… First thing I heard was God did not have any of us in mind when He instituted marriage. Then he said marriage is not for companionship. It’s not for procreation. It’s not for a safe environment for sex.
If marriage were for companionship, if the companionship is not available does that mean the end of the union? If for some reason you are not able to have a Child, should the marriage end too or if due to a health challenge or one reason or the other you both cannot have sex, is that the end?
When God said let us make man in our image and then went on to say… It is not good for man to be alone, what did He compare it to before saying it was not good? The image and unity of the Trinity…three in one( husband and wife becomes one with God, three fold cord that cannot be broken). God created marriage for His pleasure, we enjoying the marriage is a side effect(secondary purpose) of the obedience. Companionship, procreation, sex is the side effects but not the primary reason why. The ultimate purpose of marriage is God, for His glory.
Marriage is not mainly about being or staying in love. It’s mainly about telling the truth with our lives. It’s about portraying something true about Jesus Christ and the way He relates to His people. It is about showing in real life the glory of the Gospel
If there was no marriage and he said, the church the bride of Christ, it’s hard to understand what that means. With this example, we understand what it means to be the bride of Christ.
My marriage is not about me… I understood Ephesians 5:21-33 a whole lot better after this.
So we’re the bride of Christ, we have a father on earth, giving us a better understanding of God as our Father and Christ our brother (The first born son)… God my Husband, Father and Brother isn’t that amazing?

I didn’t know this before last weekend… Did you?
