My role and passing the baton

…John replied, “God in heaven appoints each person’s work… I am not the Messiah. I am here to prepare the way for him – that is all. He must become greater and greater, and I must become less.

John3:27-30
I told my children during our Bible study that life is like a puzzle and we all have a part to play to make it a complete picture. Tori asked, ” Mummy why did God make life like a puzzle?
I told her because we are all one body of Christ… It doesn’t matter how  big you grow, what matters is if you played your role as the missing link that joins the pie e that comes before and after you. so when we come together, we become one.
Do I recognise my role in the puzzle?
Am I the dot or a bigger piece?
Am I the oblong trying to fit into the square?
Or forcing my way into the circle?
Am I holding myself back because I want to see the whole picture before I decide where to fit in?
Could it be I am resentful because my role is small or attention has shifted from me to the next big thing?
I saw that:
1)John knew who gives the work

2)He knew his role/part in the work

3)He knew when his work was done, attention will shift from him

4)Be knew Jesus was going to be greater if he introduced him but he still went ahead
Will I still recommend, introduce, or teach someone if I knew doing it will make the person greater than me?
Will you?
