The Flock of Birds #letshinetogether
Nigo and Bubu were always arguing; it’s either they are trying to outdo themselves or fighting over little issues, their parents were tired of settling the dispute. It was one thing or the other.
Bubu was showing his mother his test scripts and sharing how happy he was that he did better in his Quantitative reasoning.
Suddenly, Nigo pushed her own test sheet in front of her mother. “Mummy see I passed too, I got more than Bubu!”
“That’s not true!” Bubu retorted.
“It is!” Countered Nigo
And so they went back and forth till their mother told them to keep quiet.
Another day, Nigo was trying to show their uncle a dance step she learned at her choreography class when Bubu sneered, “Is it not that simple thing, I can even do better than that.”
Nigo got angry and another round of argument started.
“Hello!” Their father firmly cut in. “Both of you, get dressed and meet me outside.” The children knew that tone and quietly did as they were told.
Their father marched them to the field close to the house and asked them to sit and watch the sky, if you see any flock of birds, let me know.”
They sat and watched but saw nothing, so their father took his phone and searched, then he called them over.
“I want both of you to look at the birds, tell me what you notice.” he said. The children watched as the birds flew in the sky till they all flew away.
“They are going somewhere.” Bubu said.
“The bird has plenty children, Nigo added.”
Okay, that’s good, how about the way they are flying, did you notice anything?” Their father asked.
“They are flying with their wings!” Nigo exclaimed while Bubu rolled his eyes at her.
“Daddy warn…” Nigo got cut off by their father.
“Did you notice they are all flying together but no one is fighting for space amongst them? None is saying, you are blocking me or I can fly better than you. Why? The sky is big enough for all of them. The same way, the ground is big enough for all of us. You are both loved by your mother and I. It’s not a competition of who gets loved the most or who does things best, because like the birds, you both have your own space to do your thing. If Bubu is winning, Nigo will cheer him up and vice versa. Everybody can shine at the same time, you don’t have to try to outshine yourself do you understand?”
Yes, Daddy.” they answered.
“Enough of these arguments and fights. I will not love you more or less because you have or did something better, neither will your mother. We love both of you and that’s the end of it. Let’s go home.”
The next day, their father came home with a picture of a flock of birds with a title, there is space for everyone. Written boldly on it, he put it in the living room and their bedroom to always remind them.
Bubu and Nigo learned the lesson very well and taught their friends too. They are still teaching people everywhere they go.
