The Land of the Mouth
There once lived a land called the land of the mouth. The people in this land were called teeth, they lived in houses called the maxilla and mandible covered with gums just the way humans have story buildings with upstairs and downstairs.
Some of them were called incisor, canine, molar and premolar. Everyone lived in peace as they all worked to take food to the body while the body turned the food into strength and nutrients for them to remain strong, healthy and also give beautiful smiles.
One day, those called the incisor stood up and said; “we should be the leader since we do the most important work”
So when the hand was bringing food to the mouth, the incisor refused to open the gate to the land.
“What’s happening? The other teeth protested when they saw the gate to their land was still shut.
“We will open the gate,” said the incisor. “Before we do that; we want to let you know we are now the leader of this land because we do the most important work of cutting.”
Everybody started laughing; they thought the incisors were joking but when they saw this was no joke there was uproar as they all argued angrily.
“Who do you think you are? We should be the leader! Do you think you can tear without us?” The canine shouted.
“Are you as strong as us? That is our place!” The molars shouted raising their strong hands for crushing food
“Can you imagine these weak incisors? Who wants to fight the leadership position with the powerful premolars? If it were the molars saying this we will try to understand but you?”
The premolars hissed as they laughed derisively and laughed flexing their big muscles for crushing food.
The arguments and shouts went on and on, and since nobody agreed to calm down so they can open the gate, no food could enter the mouth.
The hand got tired of waiting and went away with the food.
Everybody angrily entered their houses refusing to work, so they can show everyone how important they were.
This continued until one day, the canine said, “I am so weak I can barely stand what is happening?
The molar, premolar and incisor too spoke up. “I thought I was the only one, they echoed themselves.
While they were still wondering and asking questions, the tongue who has been silent all this while spoke up.
“Silly silly teeth! I have been watching all of you but if I don’t talk your silliness will destroy us all. Don’t you know you all can’t do without each other? None of you can stand alone, you need to cut or tear to crush. Nobody has everything in themselves. Since you are not allowing the food inside, the body cannot give you strength or nutrients. It’s better you go back to work or continue your silliness and keep getting weak, till we all perish here.
The teeth didn’t know the food and their work was important to everyone in the body, they were remorseful at their pettiness.
They all apologized to one another and opened the gate for the food to come in. That is how they gladly started working together and helping themselves because they all realized everyone’s work is important no matter how little or big. They also learned not to look down on anybody no matter who they are.
Are they still working together?
You can look in the mirror, open your mouth and tell me.
