The tortoise and the rabbit
Daddy one more story please, the children begged as their father stood to leave the room.
“Again?” their daddy groaned.
“Yes daddy, just one short one and that’s all.” The youngest piped.
Sighing in resignation, their father sat down to the excitement of the children.
This is the story of the rabbit and the tortoise. The rabbit was an overconfident animal and is everywhere, the most popular and it seemed he was liked by everyone, it wasn’t enough for him that he was popular he still went on to mock the tortoise and try to show off to make the tortoise feel bad.
“Hey, slow-mo!”
“Where are your friends, no one likes you?”
“Hey, fatty do you want to race?”
Usually, the tortoise ignored him and wasn’t bothered even when his friends laughed at him but that day he had had enough. So he said, “Yes!”
“Huh, yes to what?” the rabbit asked.
“Yes, to the race. I want to race you” he patiently replied.
The rabbit looked at his friends and they all burst out laughing but they realized the tortoise was serious.
“Okay, if that’s what you want, I will give you time to rest from walking home today. Tomorrow morning we race, so no one can say I wasn’t fair.” He said between laughter. The tortoise nodded and left, their amusement at his slow movement rang out behind him.
It was time for the race, the rabbit who is confident it will win jumps from place to place, he believes the tortoise will never get to the finish line. The race begins and the tortoise starts but the rabbit is still standing and talking with his friends, they all came with food and drinks for a party. when the tortoise has gone a considerable distance, the rabbit hops a few times and overtakes him.
“Hey slow-mo, tired yet? Are you ready to admit defeat?” he taunted. But the tortoise ignored him and plods on bit by bit.
“Aww, he still thinks he can beat me.” He calls his friends over and they start their party, he forgot about the race while having fun. After the party, he took a nap.
Meanwhile, the tortoise kept inching forward till he was almost at the finish line. The rabbit woke up and remembered the race and looked to see where the tortoise was, he was shocked to see him almost at the finish line. He hopped and hopped as fast as he could but he was too late. The tortoise had won.
Children, this story is about truth and lie, the rabbit is a lie that always looks like it will win but never does while the tortoise is a truth who may not look like a winner but always wins. Remember this, a lie is always easy and bounces everywhere with everyone’s eyes on it but it can never be the truth. When people say things about you that are lies, always remember, that the truth outlives lies no matter what.
“Goodnight children.” Daddy said as he shut the door behind him.
