When It seems God is silent…
I saw this write up by Ebele that blessed me, so I decided to share… Let me know if it resonates.
“I don’t even know what I’m doing…”
For those who have been seeking direction and clarity from God regarding matters pertaining to their future but do not feel like they’re receiving any answers,
I wanted to let you know that it’s not that your prayers are not enough or that God does not [want to] speak to you. It’s also not that God does not care about you.
Clarity will come but more often than not, it will not look like an angel descending from the heavens and saying, “thus saith the Lord, take out your pen and start writing. I am about to tell you of all that must happen in your future…”
More often than not, clarity will come as you put one foot after another; as you patiently and faithfully obey the current instruction until He gives the next one.
It does not equal you being an immature or unserious Christian.
There are brethren who will tell you that God has showed them in detail, things that will happen in their lives 10, 15 years from now. Some of them will say, in fact, that God already showed them their spouse, they know the names of all their children, what careers they’ll be in, etc,. They seem to have it all figured out.
I think that it’s pretty amazing.
But it doesn’t mean there’s something deficient or inferior about you if you’re not like these brethren.
If you’re at the “uncertain”, “I-don’t-even-know-what-I’m-doing”, “figuring-it-out” phase, I want you to know that if you’re praying and listening, then answers will come. Direction will come. Instructions will come. Wisdom and clarity will come.
So take it easy on yourself.
Now, do you remember the last instruction that God gave you? Go back and reassess it, and see if God gave you the go-ahead to move on from it before you moved on.
{When you are unsure about the next thing that God is saying, go back to the last thing that He said.}
If you cannot remember the last instruction you received, ask the Lord to mercifully bring it again to your remembrance.
What season of life are you currently in? Are you a student? A 9-5er? A business owner? What capacity are you serving in at the moment? Do your best to do it faithfully and cheerfully. Take whatever responsibility it is seriously.
Even if you’re unemployed, sitting at home all day, please make sure that you’re not wasting the time that you have now. It is your greatest asset. Now that you can afford to, make great investments of prayer and spiritual consecration. God may even begin to impress it on your heart to read certain books, take certain courses or learn certain skills…do not waste the “idle season”.
A lot of the time, the door to the next phase is opened by our faithful stewardship in the current one.
Many of us are so anxious about tomorrow when we’ve not even lived today.
Like driving a car at night with your headlights on, sometimes clarity comes as you go yard after yard. You do not see the entire road but as you follow the light, one yard after the other, the road becomes clearer and clearer.
Follow whatever light you have now. And take it one day at a time.
